Filipinos from a White Man's Point of View
I am saddened by how people from other countries view Filipinos.. I honestly believe that it is not their fault that they generalize and think low of Filipinos because isn't it true? Isn't it true that even us Filipinos fall victims to our own countryman, we fall victim to their cunningness, greediness, and cleverness... Its sad how instead of working hard to get somewhere, some if not most of our countryman now go for the "easy way", they would rather steal and fool people to earn money rather than sweating it out..
But! Not all Filipinos have succumbed to the easy way.. And so, I still think that it is still wrong to generalize but we also need to do something about it, since people can never help but generalize... We need to start working from the Filipinos view! Foreigner's opinions of Filipinos may hurt, especially since it is partly true but are we just going to sit back and listen to all the bad things they have to say about us?
I am not saying that we fight back and start telling them everything thats wrong with their countries.. But instead we should strive to clean up the image of Filipinos in the International community since that is the only way out of this mess we are in..

National Pride
The 2008 Olympics in Beijing is a shame to Filipinos.. We only sent 15 athletes and none of them have won a medal yet.. Its funny how we could not afford to send athletes to an Olympics but we could afford to send all these bodyguards with the President.. Well, National Pride just got another tough blow.. The gold medal remains an elusive dream, one we may never achieve the way we are going right now..
Medals won in an Olympics would bring us National Pride and boost our egos.. But we just can't seem to compete, or we don't really compete...

Essence of Teamwork (Applied to the Nation)
One or two posts below this you would be able to read the post about the essence of teamwork.. Its more of a definition of what teamwork really is, and its a definition I love!
I believe that the Philippines will become great! I believe that the Philippines can compete with first world countries! I believe that we have what it takes! I believe that one day, our countrymen who are slaving away in other countries could one day come home someday and be able to earn the same amount here... I believe that we can all do it together!

Well, I kinda have the feeling that you don't believe... And so we aren't really on the same page.. So back to teamwork! Every single Filipino is different from another, its cool how diverse and culturally different we are even though we live in the same country.. But teamwork does not require us to be the same, teamwork does not require us to try and be like everyone else.. Teamwork is knowing that we are all different, but each of us have a part to play in making this country better! Completely different but TOTALLY united in achieving one dream!
I think we can do it! We just need teamwork! Stop thinking about yourself, lets go back to scratch and think of the common good!

Essence of Teamwork
Teamwork means that we share a common ideal and embrace a common goal. Regardless of our differences, we strive shoulder to shoulder, confident in one another's faith, trust and commitment. In the end, teamwork can be summed up in five short words..."we believe in each other."I just love how this quote defines teamwork! It makes it so clear to the reader that teamwork can never be done alone or "solo". Teamwork is sharing a common ideal and embracing a common goal even though we are so much different from each other.. The best illustration of teamwork that I can give is of a "football/soccer" team in the UEFA cup.. It can be clearly seen that the players on the field are different in height, color, country, and cultures but they all play as a team with one common goal ... to win the championships for their team... And is great to see that they pass the ball to each other with faith and trust that the person he passed the ball to, will not make a mistake. 11 players playing with one goal!

This is the conclusion to the 5 post series Answers!
In my opinion, no matter what you are or who you are in society, you will always be a part of making this Nation great..
I believe that Filipinos have what it takes to become a great Nation. Why? Because we are very talented and all we need is for all of us to focus on one dream and goal! I think the main problem we are facing as a Nation today is not the rising price of gasoline, rice and all other commodities.. I think it isn't also the fact that most of the talented, hard-working Filipinos are working abroad.
Instead I think that we as a country never worked towards a goal. I think as a nation, we never had a dream for this country! Proof to this is the fact, that we don't even have proper city planning.. So, I think we should have a united dream or goal for this nation! That every single Filipino should know, and that whatever they do, they know that if he only works hard and does his part then this nation will be great!
All Filipinos Dreaming One Dream! To make this nation great!

Apologies
I would like to send my sincere apologies to all the readers of this blog cause I was not able to post the past few days due to the busyness of life.. I started with a new job and I have to work from 2pm-12am.. Its so tiring that I find it so hard to wake up that I wasnt able to post here for a while.. But now I am back and I promise that this blog will have a new post every single day.. The Filipino Talent - Don Don Hontiveros
Don Don Hontiveros (Professional Basketball Player)
Don Don Hontiveros is a great basketball player who is a gentleman on and off the basketball court. I once had the chance to meet Hontiveros when he visited my school to give an inspirational talk to the members of our school's basketball club...
Listening to him talk about his life made me admire Don Don Hontiveros, here's why:
He is one of the living examples of a Filipino who had a dream for his life. It may not be publicly known, but when Hontiveros was 10 years old he wrote his dream on a piece of paper. He wrote, "I will be a professional basketball player". And he never allowed anyone to take away his dream and never got distracted..
Today, we see a Don Don Hontiveros, who stayed humble amidst all the fame!
Answers! Seeing Your True Potential
Teaching a man to fish for himself could be one of the hardest things to do, but if you have already found the perfect student it wouldn't even seem hard! Simply because, if a man could already see his true potential he would be more eager and confident in setting goals that he would work towards.. All you would have to do as a teacher, is watch and make sure he does not get distracted....
I once read a story about a janitor who thought that because he did not have a good education, cleaning, sweeping, and mopping the floor was the only thing that he would be able to do. But one day, the company he was working in decided to give an IQ test to all their employees. When the results were announced, everyone including the janitor himself was surprised when the IQ test results revealed that he had the brain of a genius.
Do you know what he did after that? Let me continue the story... After learning that he had the brain of a genius, he saw himself in a new light. He quit his job as a janitor knowing that with his true potential, he had the capacity to become more than just a janitor for the rest of his life..
Seeing your true potential makes you dream and set goals that other people would laugh at because they do not know what your true potential is, until you reach it. So do not be discouraged and distracted from pursuing your dreams..

The Latest Pulse-Asia Survey Claims....
The latest Pulse-Asia survey claims that 75% of Filipinos think that their lives have worsened since the past year! I know that this survey could have been just an exaggeration and a claim based on a survey conducted to less than half all the Filipinos...
I was never asked this question or asked to answer a survey, and so I think that I can come to the conclusion that not everyone was asked if they thought their lives have worsened... If ever you weren't given this survey then I have placed a poll located at the sidebar of this page... So that we may be able to see for ourselves what the statistics really are...

Manny Pacquiao is probably the most talented Filipino when it comes to boxing... He made history by recently becoming the first Filipino and Asian boxer to win 4 world titles in 4 weight divisions... Amazing isn't it?
Being a Filipino never stopped Manny Pacquiao from achieving fame and success and even making history in the world of boxing...
I believe that a long time ago.... When Manny was just a young kid below the age of 16, before he even stepped into the ring for the first time...
Manny Pacquiao had a dream and a goal!
He had a goal, and that goal was to become the best boxer in the world!
He knew that every time he stepped into the ring, every single fight, every single bruise, and every single punch brought him closer to reaching his goal... What we see now is a Manny Pacquiao who is strong, fast, and probably the best... But what we never saw was all the times he woke up early to spend hours jogging, sparring, and spending his day fighting the punching bag long before he became famous... Manny Pacquiao was never contented! He wasn't contented being poor and so he set a goal to become the best boxer in the world! Manny Pacquiao did not have an education but he had a dream for himself! Manny Pacquiao not only holds 4 world titles today, he also now holds a college degree!
Because he has a dream he has a dream for a better future!

Lessons From A Job Interview!
I am currently out of school, waiting for the next semester to start which would be about 3 months from today and so I went looking for a job cause I wanted to get some work experience and a small source of income till school starts instead of just sleeping the day away...
And so I submitted my resume 2 days ago hoping to get a job teaching Koreans English... If you live here in the Philippines you have probably noticed the increasing number of Koreans studying English here in the Philippines and so I applied for the job!
I wanted to get the job so that I would be able to develop my communication skills while earning some money... Talk about hitting 2 birds with one stone... And so I got a schedule for a job interview today! Actually, the interview happened a few minutes ago... It was one of the toughest job applications I have ever done... First I was given a written exam to test my English skills, then I was given a typing test which I failed... I couldn't believe it! I spend my whole day in front of computers and I failed a typing test... I was too nervous! Third, I was asked to do a phone interview to see if my voice sounds good, clear, and friendly on the phone...
I think I won't land the job but I learned a lesson today... A lesson I could use for my next job interview... Never let nervousness take over... Be Confident!

Pinoy Lang Ako Mentality - A Crippling Disorder
Its funny how some Filipinos have the "Pinoy Lang Ako Mentality"... There's nothing wrong with being a Filipino but it seems that some of our fellow Filipinos use this instead as an excuse for not being able to do certain things... Well, honestly you could always blame your height on your being Filipino but thats it! You can't make excuses like, not hoping and striving for success on your being Filipino...
Filipinos have as much chances of succeeding as Americans, Australians, and Singaporeans... Do you believe that? I do! And I think that we can even do better than them... But first we need to tackle and remove within us the "Pinoy Lang Ako Mentality"...
Here are 2 reasons why we should get rid of this mentality:
It Cripples you from achieving more...
*I think its pretty obvious that making excuses and blaming it on your being Filipino would stop you from reaching your full potential... The truth is unless we stop making excuses and working towards a better future we would never be able to achieve success as a Nation...
It Makes other Filipinos look bad...
*If you keep making excuses that you can never succeed because your just a Filipino, people of other nationalities that hear you would tend to immediately generalize that all Filipinos are like you and Filipinos are nothing but a bunch of lazy and undetermined people... If you don't want to become a better person, its your life but I ask you to not make excuses but instead tell the truth...

I would start a new series its going to be labeled, "The Filipino Talent"... I am not sure of how long this series will be but for as long as there's a talented Filipino out there that could serve as an inspiration to other Filipinos I will write a story about him/her...

Answers! How To Find Out Who Would Fish For Themselves
This is the second post to the series "Answers!" This would be about a method of how to find out who would learn to fish for themselves... An answer to the post "Questions"....
How exactly do you teach a man how to fish for himself instead of just giving him food for the day? It would be easier to answer that question, if we first learn how to find out the perfect student!
When I finally felt confident about my answer to my brother's question, I told him that I found the answer! Eureka! And so here is the answer....
You can always pay them to fish!
*This is what separates the entrepreneurs from the employees... The entrepreneurs are the people who pay the people to fish for them.. And the employees are the fishermen but they don't own everything they catch... Entrepreneurs are risk takers, while employees are contented with their secure monthly pay-check... There will always be a point in the life of the employee when he would realize that he could earn so much more if he owns everything he catches, this will be the one of the signs that he/she will be a perfect student that you will teach how to fish...

Filipino Time - Forgetting What It Means To Be On Time
We are know well known internationally because of "Filipino Time"! Isn't that something cool?!
Well Filipino Time isn't really something we should be proud about... It has become a subject of jokes by foreigners... I once heard a foreigner cracking a joke about how he has gotten used to Filipino Time just by living in this country and every Filipino in the room was just laughing... I didn't find it funny though..
I know Filipino's have the special ability of laughing through the most embarrassing moments, but I wasn't so sure if the Filipinos were laughing cause they were embarrassed or cause they just found "not being on time" super funny.... I know we Filipinos have grown up adjusting to people who always arrive late and we have learned to accept that it would always be part of life here in the Philippines... But can we do something about it? Can we do something to make it known that punctuality earns you respect... Answers! Why You Can't Teach Everyone To Fish
In the post that I entitled I "Questions" I told you about my brother's question... And so here is the first post to the series "Answers!"
It finally dawned on me that I will never be able to teach every single human living on this earth how to fish for themselves... Just to make things clear, I want to clarify what I mean by teaching a man how to fish... What I really meant by "learning how to fish" is the person achieving success.. Part of my dream is to see every single Filipino become successful... But the sad truth is you can't teach everyone how to fish! Why is this?!
Because some people are just lazy!
*Some people just don't care about becoming successful! They just want to sleep and wait for the next meal... A few examples of these, are adults still living with their parents, just playing with their consoles (PS2's, Wii's, Xbox's) or waste their time surfing the web and just waiting for their parents voice saying, "food is ready!"... Its a sad truth! These are people who don't have plans for their lives... Or just don't want to do something because they are lazy! Where do you think our grandparent's based the story of "Juan Tamad"?
Because some people are contented with what they are...
*Its not wrong to be content as long as it is placed in a proper context! But if you don't have a job and you don't have a means of getting the money to buy your next meal, being content about your situation is just not right! Some people get so used to living in the slums or being indigent or even being rich that they just don't want to do something to improve themselves or their lifestyles... It is a fact that rich kids suffer from being content in the wrong context too! I know some people who were born into rich families that they just gambled, had vices, cut classes, intentionally wasting their lives and when I asked them why they were doing this to themselves they simply reply with, "My parents are rich I don't need to study.." Sad isn't it?
Because not everyone has what it takes to fish for themselves...
*Yes! Not everyone has what it takes to fish for themselves... Not everyone has the ability to look past what he is doing and see what he could achieve in the future! I believe that not everyone would learn how to fish because not everyone has a dream for themselves... It could easily be seen in the world today that there are entrepreneurs, and there will always be employees... What separates the two, is innovation and a dream! But if you just want to be an employee for the rest of your life, there is nothing wrong with it...
If you see yourself as one of the types of people I mentioned above and you want to change... I believe that you can still change and dream a future for yourself... But a dream is nothing unless you have the determination and motivation to make it happen... Work towards the goals you set!

It is a fact that rich kids suffer from being content in the wrong context too! I know some people who were born into rich families that they just gambled, had vices, cut classes, intentionally wasting their lives and when I asked them why they were doing this to themselves they simply reply with, "My parents are rich I don't need to study.." Sad isn't it?
Because not everyone has what it takes to fish for themselves...
*Yes! Not everyone has what it takes to fish for themselves... Not everyone has the ability to look past what he is doing and see what he could achieve in the future! I believe that not everyone would learn how to fish because not everyone has a dream for themselves... It could easily be seen in the world today that there are entrepreneurs, and there will always be employees... What separates the two, is innovation and a dream! But if you just want to be an employee for the rest of your life, there is nothing wrong with it...
If you see yourself as one of the types of people I mentioned above and you want to change... I believe that you can still change and dream a future for yourself... But a dream is nothing unless you have the determination and motivation to make it happen... Work towards the goals you set!

Questions
I was having a conversation with my brother last night and I was telling him about my goal for this blog.. I told him that it would be great if only all Filipinos would learn to dream, and everyone would just cooperate to make this Nation better as a whole.. I told him that if everyone would just dream to achieve better, if everyone would just dream of being successful the Philippines can rise up...
My brother was just listening to me... But when he finally spoke he told me a few stuff about the dream being nice and all but he also asked me some of the toughest questions I would ever have to answer..
He asked, "So, how will you get the people to dream?" And so I started to tell him about if only they could see my life they would be inspired and then they would learn to dream... If I could just let the people know what I had to go through growing up and still being able to dream big dreams maybe they would be inspired... He was just looking at me, nodding his head..
And from out of nowhere I told him... Teaching a person to dream is like teaching a man to fish... The original phrase I quoted that from would say, "Don't give a person fish that he may live for the day, instead teach him to fish that he may have food for life.." Then he asked me, "How would you teach a man to fish? If you could find the answer to that, you would be able to change a life, and if you change a life, you can change the world..."
I was silenced! I was dumbstruck! I was in shock! I just didn't have the answer to it...
And so I spent the whole night and today thinking of it until it finally dawned on me that you just can't change everyone... But wait! Im not saying that my dream is hopeless... The answer to it just even brings my dream closer to reality! The answer to it is really long and so I have to write it in different posts but its going to be a 5 post series entitled, "Answers!"
